Political Satire in the Trump Era
February 6 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Event Navigation
When Donald J. Trump was elected President last November, you could be forgiven for thinking that satire was dead. After all, when satire becomes reality where else is there to go? In the ‘Post-truth’ age of ‘fake news’ and ‘alternative facts’, where Orwell’s 1984 is back as a bestseller and the likes of Saturday Night Live and John Oliver are struggling to keep up with the antics of the Alt-Right, what role does political satire have to play in today’s media?
Next Monday, join the Hist’s Burke Sessions Committee and DU PolSoc for a panel discussion on the role of satire in the Trump Era. Addressing this topic alongside several of Trinity’s brightest young student speakers are some of Ireland’s most popular and high-profile satirists:
Oliver Callan of Callan’s Kicks
David McSavage of The Savage Eye
Seamus O’Shea of The Ulster Fry
As always, this will be followed by a food and drinks reception!
